The subject of this issue is the topic of heresy. The word,“heresy” or “heretic,” has largely negative connotations, and rightly so. A more positive view of the enterprise involved in defining heresy does exist, however. The point of looking for heretical teachings is not for the sake of promoting intolerance but to protect the Gospel. In its battle with defections from the faith, the church has emerged stronger, with a richer appreciation of the greatness of God and the wonder of his salvation.
